Panch Badri

Panch Badri Yatra is another significant spiritual circuit where Lord Vishnu is worshipped in different forms. These temples are – Badrinath (Vishal Badri), Yog Dhyan Badri, Bhavishya Badri, Vridha Badri, and Adri Badri. In the Skanda Purana of Kedarkhand section, the Sapt Badri notion also mentioned.

Badrinath Temple

Badrinath is located 3,133 m above sea level in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. The temple is one most important shrine among the Char Dham Pilgrimage sites & also highly revered among the Panch Badri. It is mentioned in Bhagavata Purana that at Badrikashram (means Badrinath), the sages Nara and Narayana had been undergoing great penance since time immemorial for the welfare of all living entities. This religious town is situated between Nar & Narayan Mountains on the bank of river Alaknanda

Adi badri

Adibadri is a group of temples located at a distance of 17 Kms from Karnaprayag on the way to Ranikhet. People believe that some temples were built during the Gupta age whereas others believe that Adi Shankaracharya developed this temple to spread Hinduism. Adi Badri is a group of 16 temples, out of which 14 temples are still intact even today. Inside the main temple, there is a 3 ft. idol of Lord Vishnu, which is worshipped here as Adi Badri. Legend says that here Maha Rishi Ved Viyas wrote Shri Mad Bhagwat Maha Puran and also Adi Badri was the Tapasthali of Lord Vishnu for three yugas(era).

Virdh badri Temple

Vridh Badri is located at an altitude of 1380 m in the Animath village which is 7 km far from Joshimath. It is believed that Lord Vishnu appeared in the form of Vridha or old man before sage Narada performed penance here. Thus, the idol installed at this temple is in the form of an old man. According to legends, Adi Shankara worshipped Lord Badrinath here before his enshrinement at Badrinath dham. This temple is located in the Animath Village which is just at 7 km distance from Joshimath and remains open for devotees throughout the year.

Bhavishya Badri Temple

Bhavishya Badri is another temple of the Panch Badri Circuit. Bhavishya Badri means the future seat of Badri. According to the legend of Bhavishya Badri, when evil transcends the world, the mountains of Nara and Narayana would block up the route to Badrinath and the sacred shrine would become inaccessible. The present world will be destroyed and a new one established. Then, Badrinath will appear at the Bhavishya Badri temple and be worshipped here, instead of the Badrinath shrine. Currently at Bhavishya Badri temple, the idol of Narasimha- the lion faced incarnation of Lord Vishnua, is enshrined.

Yogdhyan Badri Temple

Yogdhyan Badri is located at Pandukeshwar at elevation of 1,920 m from sea level. Pandukeshwar is enroute from Govind Ghat to Hanuman Chatti, approx 9 kilometres away from Hanuman Chatti. According to the legend, King Pandu meditated here to evacuate their sin of committing fratricide (gotra hatya) and Brāhmanahatya (killing the Brahmins or priest) during the war of Mahabharata. The Shaligram stone statue of Lord Badri is carved in a meditative posture thus referred as Yoga-dhyan (mediative) Badri.
