Panch Kedar

Panch Kedar are the five temples dedicated to Lord Shiva situated in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand, India. These five temples are Kedarnath which lies at an altitude of 3583m, Tungnath which lies at a distance of 3680m, Rudranath which lies at an altitude of 2286m, Madhyamaheshwar which lies at a distance of 3490m and Kalpeshwar which lies at an elevation of 2200m. These temple are visited in this order of importance only. Panch Kedar are important pilgrimages in India as they are believed to be built by the Pandavas of Mahabharat.
Kedarnath temple lies in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand and is the most important of the Panch Kedar temples. Its beauty is beyond words. Since the hump of the bull appeared at this place, the temple comprises a Shiva lingam in the shape of a cone representing the bull’s hump.The months from May to June and from September to October are considered ideal to visit the place.
Tungnath temple lies at the height of 3680m and is regarded as the highest temple of Lord Shiva in the world. This was the place where the hands of the bull emerged. One is likely to come across beautiful peaks such as Nanda Devi, Chowkhamba, Neelkanth and Kedarnath on the way here. There are meadows filled with the exotic rhododendron flower and if one trek further 2 km to Chandrashila peak, they will be likely to come across some beautiful mountains.

Rudranath

This temple has been formed by natural rock formation and is situated at the height of 2286m. This is where the bull’s face appeared. Rudranath Temple lies amidst the alpine meadows and thick forests covered with rhododendrons where Lord Shiva is worshipped as ‘Neelkanth Mahadev’. Surya Kund, Chandra Kund, Tara Kund and Mana Kund are some of the holy pools surrounding the temple. Some fabulous peaks present here include Nanda Devi, Nada Ghunti, and Trishul. The trek to this temple is considered to be the hardest trek as compared to all the other temples.

Madyamaheshwar

Madhyamaheshwar is the place where the navel of the bull appeared. It lies at the height of 3289m in the Mansoona village of Garhwal Himalayas. The village is situated in a beautiful green valley and is surrounded by peaks such as Kedarnath, Neelkantha and Chaukhamba covered in snow. The path becomes a bit rough right from Bantoli where Madhyamaheshwar Ganga merges with Martyendra Ganga. One is likely to spot the rich and unique wildlife of the place on the way including some very endangered species.

Kalpeshawar Temple

The hair of the bull (Lord Shiva) appeared in this region around which the Kalpeshwar temple was built. Lord Shiva has also been given the name ‘Jateshwar’ due to his long and knotted hair locks. Urgam valley is an exotic location due to the apple orchards and potato plantations present here. One can reach the Urgam Valley from Helang which is situated on the Rishikesh-Badrinath road. On the way lie the very beautiful Kalpganga and Alaknanda rivers which are an absolute delight for the eyes.

Day 1
Haridwar – Sonprayag .
(Drive -204 kms/07 hrs approx)
After breakfast drive to Sonprayag via Devprayag & Rudraprayag. Upon arrival check into the hotel. Dinner & overnight stay at hotel.
Day 2
Sonprayag – Gaurikund
(Drive -5 Km/20 mins approx) Gaurikund - Kedarnath (Trek-17 km one way)
Start early in morning to reach Gaurikund on time. On arrival start ardous walk on well paved trail to Kedarnath, entire route is steep with level walk at few stretches. Overnight stay at Kedarnath.
Day 3
Kedarnath - Gaurikund (Trek back) Gaurikund – Ransi .
(Drive - 65 Kms/4 hrs approx)
After blissful Darshan of Kedarnath Temple return back to Gaurikund and proceed drive to Ransi. Ransi is starting point of Madhyamaheshwar Trek. Night halt at Ransi Village.
Day 4
Ransi – Bantoli via Gaundhar
(Trek 6 Kms)
It will easy walk on descending trail with level walk alongside of river with stretch of moderate ascent. Night stay at Bantoli
Day 5
Bantoli– Madhyamaheshwar
(Trek 10 Kms)
oday trek will start with moderate ascent which get tougher as you ascend to Khatra, Nanu, Moukheem & Koon. Night stay at Madhyamaheshwar.
Day 6
Madhyamaheshwar – Ransi (Trek back) Ransi – Chopta
(Drive 40 Kms/02 hrs approx)
Start trek back to Ransi, on arrival start drive to Chopta for overnight halt.
Day 7
Chopta – Tungnath
( Trek – 4 Kms) & Tunganth – Chopta (Trek back)
The trail to Tungnath temple is moderate with steep climb in some stretches however scenic view of surrounding keep rejuvenate the climbers. After darshan of Tungnath temple trek back to Chopta for overnight stay
Day 8
Chopta-Sagar
(Drive-30 km/01 hrs approx) Sagar – Panar Bugyal (Trek 10 Kms))
You will be driven to Sagar Village. Commence the uphill trek to Panar Bugyal which passes through Pung Bugyal, Mauli Karak, Luiti Bugyal. Night stay at Panar.
Day 9
Panar Bugyal - Rudranath (Trek 8 km) Rudranath – Panar Bugyal (Trek back)

Start the hike on gradient path with level walk & down hill descent after Pitradhar. After darshan return back to Panarbugyal for night ha
Day 10
Panar bugyal– Sagar Village
Trek back) Sagar Village- Urgam (Drive-60 km/ 02 hr approx)
After breakfast start trek down to Sagar and on arrival proceed drive to Urgam Via Helang. Night halt at Urgam.
Day 11
Panar bugyal– Sagar Village (Trek back) Sagar Village- Urgam (Drive-60 km/ 02 hr approx)

It is an easy trek of 2 kms from Urgam village of Helang. Post darshan return back to Urgam & start drive to Rudraprayag for overnight stay

  • 2.Asthma & Heart Patients are not advised – Consult your doctor before joining.
  • 3.Carry dark chocolates, dry fruits, Glucose (Glucon D), and toffees. This will provide you instant energy during trekking & long journeys.
  • 4.Carry your Pooja samagri as per your requirement.
  • Follow the instructions of the Tour manager.
  • 5.Do not take pictures if cameras are not allowed in temples.
  • 6.Carry extra batteries for your camera & power banks for your cell phone.
  • 7.Communication: Although all private mobile phones have coverage, Airtel & Jio network is better in most places.
  • 8.Fitness: All pilgrims should be physically fit. It is better to do some jogging and other light exercises to prepare for this journey.
  • 9.For Kedarnath, guests need to carry a small handbag for 1 day’s clothes & your necessary valuables as suitcases cannot be carried up.
  • 10.The approximate charge for one way Doli to Yamunotri shall be Rs. 6500 per person & Kedarnath is Rs. 12,000 per person. However, it can be subject to change due to demand in the area.
  • 11.This is a pilgrimage sector, so don’t keep high expectations in hotels except Haridwar.
